Clooney
This good-natured fellow is officially listed as a Basset/Terrier mix, but I think there's a little more variety in him.
He is about 4 years old and almost 45 pounds, but a bit of a shorty. He loves to go for walks, meet new people and new dogs. He seems to always be wagging his tail! He will be with us at Petsmart, Saturday December 3rd, from 11AM-3PM.

Miss Molly
Molly is a darling girl. She's about 4 years old. A shar pei mix. She walks wonderfully on a leash, loves to be around people & does well with other dogs. She is not a friend to cats!

Our Almost Fosters
We have a shortage of foster homes, especially when it comes to cats. It's much easier to find homes for the kittens (no mystery, kittens are adorable little fluff balls!) but harder to find them for adult cats.
We currently have 3 cats in our "Almost Foster" program. So, what does that mean? Good question!
It means they have been vetted, received all of their shots, been spayed or neutered and been started on heartguard. The "Almost" means they sleep at the Temple Animal Shelter. They still come out with us to events and receive a little extra attention from us when we're at the shelter.
This is Peanut #A025098 She is a spayed, domestic shorthair, white with black spots. She likes scratches, treats and snuggles. She's about 8 years old and needs a home with a lot of love.

3 Happy New Homes
3 new homes for 3 of our wonderful fosters! This Saturday was another great one.
I think the adoption I am most excited about is Duke's (Pluto's). The first time I saw him was on Facebook. Marianne had decided to foster him & was working out his transport. I have an extra soft spot for Marianne's fosters, Woofswell was one of her's.
This was the first photo I saw of Duke/Pluto

Happy Saturday!
Whew! What an event! Yesterday we found happy homes for many of our sweet pups and Professor Whiskers made his debut.
It's always so uplifting to see one of our pets going home with a good family, to have that happen twice, and knowing that Willow has a happy home waiting for her; that is the best natural high there is.

1st Day as a Foster
Fostering is something I had wanted to do for a while. When I heard Marianne speaking about it though, how you aren't as sad to say goodbye because you are looking for the next dog/cat that needs you.
It became something I felt called to do. We have 2 bigger dogs in a smaller home ;) not too bad though, we all fit (happily!) and I have a husband who is, well, not feeling the call.
Yesterday I spoke with him, about support. About how fulfilling doing work with APAC is for me. About how I need support. I need to do this.

We need foster families for our sweet almost foster kitties!
I was snuggling Professor Whiskers today, he is just so happy in a lap, getting pat and cuddles. I am wishing and hoping he finds a warm, happy home soon. We also have Peanut & Snickers who need foster or forever homes!

Lanie's Hapy Tail
We are long overdue to read about another Happy Tail! I got this email from Jacquie the other day & what a joy it was to read.
My name is Jacquie Morgan. My husband and I adopted Lanie in March of 2009Our dog Pup died about 2 years before and we were finally ready to get another pet. After doing research we decided that we would adopt a larger dog 2-3 years old. I started looking online at the dogs available. I looked for about 3 months.

Bitter~Sweet
A while back I met this guy at a convenience store near my home. He was a little shy at first. Naturally, the more I talked to him the friendlier he became. We'd run into each other in the mornings & evenings when I stopped. He seemed to just live down there.
One September morning he even let me take his picture
Look at those eyes.

Lacy's Happy Tail
Love Miss Lacy, she's a tuxedo dog. I have a soft spot for tuxedo dogs, since my childhood best dog friend, Lucy, the 'lab assistant'
This is one happy girl
Lacy looks a bit like a lab assistant herself; a lab-pit mix (?) perhaps. The best breeds are the mystery breeds. I know this!
I was wandering around at the Temple animal shelter, not really planning on taking a dog home. I was just hanging out with a friend. I walked back into the lobby and saw a woman (Marianne) with a dog (Lacy) on a leash. I don't really know what drew me to Lacy, but I remember thinking that she was already taken (at the time, I didn't know about APAC). I went to rub her belly and Marianne told me she was up for adoption. I would have taken her home right then, but I didn't have the money. I had to wait for a week until I got paid. All I thought about was Lacy for that entire week. I finally picked her and took her to get some food, treats, and other stuff.

Every Other Saturday is Adoption Day!
I apologize for being absent for the past few days, hectic life I have been livin' but we're back & blogging!
Every other Saturday, at Petsmart in Temple, TX, is APAC's Adoption Day! This past Saturday was just an awesome, uplifting experience for me and for the rest of our volunteers. We met some wonderful people and animals and FIVE of our fosters found their forever families.
Started off right, with the jack russels (remember Miss Crystal?) well she & her buddy found their forever family, adopted together! They looked positively elated, but when does a jack russel not look elated?

What a Difference a Little Rain Makes
My husband and I have been affectionately referring to the back yard as the dust bowl. Now the ground is getting a little wet and our girls didn't know what to make of it. After eating some mud, and wrestling back there for a while, they've decided it's alright.
How have your pets been handling the rain?

Wilfred's Happy, Fluffy Tail
A few days ago, we got an email from Misti. She had recently adopted her cat, they named Wilfred, from the Animal Shelter here in Temple.
He was in such need of a grooming we or the staff couldn't even tell what gender he was.

Molly's Happy Tail
From Amy:
Molly
After running Saturday errands on October 8, 2010, I took my two little boys to PetSmart as a reward for being good. They love the “free zoo.” As we pulled up I thought, “Oh, no – It’s dog adoption day,” but I had promised to let them see the animals and so we headed toward the entrance. Of course, my three year old, Kyle, shot toward the puppies and as they were all jumping around, I was thinking “I do not want a dog!”

Everything Happens for a Reason
This is an essay by very talented young writer, Channing Marsh. Each time I read it, I get a little choked up. Then I look at Mr. Moose's sweet face & I get a little more choked up.
EVERYTHING HAPPENS FOR A REASON
Channing Marsh, 11 years old.
It was a Saturday afternoon in July and we didn't have any ball games, which is really odd for our family. After a nice, relaxing lunch, we decided to swing by Petsmart and pick up a few things for our pets.

Ladybug's Forever Home
This Thursday evening I was so happy to see a message notification from Malinda, who is Ladybug & BB Coot's mama. It was a joy to read all about Ladybug's happy tail!
Ladybug and her new blood(hound) sister, BB Coot are not just roommates, they are great friends.
Malinda's first introduction to rescues was when she
generously opened up her heart and her home to a foster dog, who was
quickly adopted. It had been a wonderful experience. When considering bringing another dog into their family, adoption was the only way to go!

Cheesy Beef Stars
One of the things that I love about blogging is that it inspires you to try new things! So here is something I tried today, baking dog biscuits from scratch. The how-to is after the jump.

October is Adopt-a-Shelter-Dog Month
Any time I talk to someone about pet ownership, I recommend adoption. I think that shelter dogs make some of the best pets.
Adopting Woofswell, a former foster from the APAC, is a decision I have never regretted. She is part of the family, now & forever. It feels like she was always here.

Why not take a look at the Pets of the Week on our website?
If you already have a house full, consider donating old blankets, towels, food, or some of your free time to your local shelter. Or you could join the APAC as a member, at any level, and help us to find forever homes for our fosters, like sweet Leo.

Why I Adopted
I have written about our Woofswell on my personal blog, but I would like to talk about her here. Tell you all why I chose to adopt, and why I feel so strongly about supporting the APAC.
It was over a year ago, I met Woofswell by chance at an APAC adoption event. It is so easy to fall in love with a puppy, and that is exactly what it was, love at first lick.

My First Event
To say that I was nervous beforehand would be an understatement. I have never volunteered for anything of this nature, and this is a group that I have a lot of admiration and respect for. I knew that I had to make a good impression and I was fully prepared for a day of hauling and picking up poop.
When I pulled up to the charming Kinnison barn in Salado, TX, two positively gorgeous quilts, artfully draped over the fence, open barn brimming with treasures and treats all generously donated; the first thing that caught my eye?
